The low-cost readiness reset

Preparedness improves fastest when you practice one small capability every week.

Organized supplies on a pantry shelf

Week one: information

Write down emergency contacts, medication details, utility numbers, and a meeting place. Save an offline map and learn where local alerts come from.

Week two: water and light

Store water in clean, labeled containers according to local guidance. Test flashlights, spare batteries, and charging cables. Put them where everyone can find them.

Week three: food and temperature

Cook one meal without the usual appliance. Learn how to keep refrigerator doors closed and how to check on neighbors who may need cooling, warmth, or medication support.

The test: If a preparedness item has no assigned place, user, or practice date, it is not part of the plan yet.
